Liposuction in Oklahoma City: The Surgeon's Honest Answers

Liposuction removes stubborn fat through cuts of a few millimeters. It contours your shape — it does not lose weight for you, and it cannot tighten loose skin. Here is what the surgery actually involves.

By the surgical team of Oklahoma Surgical Arts ·

What liposuction does — and what it does not

Liposuction sculpts specific areas: waist, flanks, thighs, chin, arms. A thin tube called a cannula moves through the fat in smooth passes, removing volume and refining shape. The cuts are a few millimeters long. The work ranges from single-area touch-ups to high-definition, multi-area sculpting — including hi-definition liposculpture.

What it cannot do matters just as much. Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure. It does not tighten loose skin. If the skin cannot shrink to the new contour, a separate procedure may be needed. What the surgery can realistically do for your shape is exactly what the examination at your consultation answers.

That examination is the starting point. Your anatomy, your goals, and an honest conversation about what is achievable — planned together and priced as one written number.

How it works in the operating room

You receive anesthesia or deep sedation — medicine that makes you sleep. The surgeon fills the targeted fat with a numbing salt-water solution. This tumescent fluid limits bleeding and reduces pain during and after surgery.

The cannula enters through the small cuts and suctions fat in controlled, even passes. The goal is smooth, symmetrical contouring. Afterward the tiny incisions are either closed or left to drain and seal on their own. A snug compression garment goes on before you leave the operating room.

Recovery, honestly — what the weeks look like

The first few days: numbing fluid drains from the small cuts. Bruising blooms, then fades. You walk the same day. By one week most people return to desk work. The compression garment stays on day and night.

At two weeks light cardio is usually possible. Swelling hides the result at this stage — patience matters. By six weeks full exercise resumes and the shape keeps improving as swelling clears. The final contour typically shows around six months.

A responsible adult must drive you home after anesthesia and stay with you for the first twenty-four hours. You may not take a rideshare alone or leave unaccompanied. The practice is located at 12400 Saint Andrew's Dr, Oklahoma City, OK 73120, with free on-site parking and direct drop-off access.

The honest risk list

Every surgery has risks. The main ones, in plain words: dents, waves, or uneven spots in the skin — a touch-up can help. Loose skin if it cannot shrink to the new shape. Numb patches lasting weeks to months. Fluid buildup (seroma) that may need drainage. Bleeding that can occasionally require a return to the operating room. Infection — watch for spreading redness, warmth, pus, or fever. Scars — the cuts are tiny, but every cut leaves a mark.

Serious but less common risks include fluid shifts during large-volume surgery (the practice limits how much fat is removed in one day for safety), blood clots in the legs that can travel to the lungs, and problems from anesthesia. In any emergency — chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, sudden confusion, or one leg swelling more than the other — call 911 first. For non-emergency concerns, call 405-751-0042 day or night.

The practice and your consultation

Oklahoma Surgical Arts operates from an AAAHC-accredited surgery center in Oklahoma City with two operating rooms. Consultations are available virtual or in person. Every surgeon on the Tulsa Surgical Arts roster also serves Oklahoma City patients, with surgery performed here or in Tulsa.

The consultation is where your plan takes shape. The surgeon examines your anatomy, discusses what is realistic, and reviews every risk listed above — in person, face to face. If you are in Edmond, about seven miles away, or anywhere in the Oklahoma City area, the first step is the same: book a consultation and bring your questions. Call 405-751-0042 or request a consultation online. Consult a qualified surgeon before making any surgical decision.

Questions

Asked in real consults.

Is liposuction a weight-loss procedure?
No. Liposuction removes stubborn pockets of fat and contours specific areas. It is not designed to reduce overall body weight, and it cannot tighten loose skin. A consultation determines what the surgery can realistically do for your shape.
How long until I see the final result?
Swelling hides much of the result for weeks. Most people notice meaningful improvement by six weeks when full exercise resumes. The final contour typically shows around six months as residual swelling clears completely. Results vary from person to person.
What areas can liposuction treat?
Common areas include the waist, flanks, thighs, chin, and arms. The range extends from single-area touch work to high-definition, multi-area sculpting. Your surgeon plans the approach to your specific anatomy during the consultation.
What should I watch for after surgery?
In any emergency — chest pain, trouble breathing, fainting, or one leg swelling — call 911 first. Otherwise call 405-751-0042 day or night for fever above 101.5°F, spreading redness, pus, worsening swelling, or if you feel faint. Consult a qualified surgeon for personalized guidance.
