Breast Augmentation: Your Boob Job in Oklahoma, Answered

"Boob job" is the everyday word. Breast augmentation is the surgery. Here is what actually happens, what recovery feels like, and how to start the conversation with a surgeon in Oklahoma City.

By the surgical team of Oklahoma Surgical Arts ·

What a boob job actually is

Breast augmentation adds size and shape to the breasts with implants. An implant is a soft shell filled with salt water or silicone gel. It sits behind the breast tissue or behind the chest muscle. You and your surgeon choose the size and placement together at your consultation — sized to your frame, decided with you.

The surgery takes about an hour. You receive anesthesia, which is medicine that makes you sleep. The surgeon makes a short incision, most often in the fold under the breast. A pocket is created, the implant is placed and checked for position, and the incision is closed in layers with dissolving stitches. You go home the same day.

One fact people sometimes skip over: implants do not last a lifetime. Plan on more surgery someday. That is not a complication — it is the nature of the device. Your surgeon will explain what long-term follow-up looks like.

Why Oklahoma City patients search for this surgery

Breast augmentation is this practice's flagship procedure. It is performed by the surgeons of the Tulsa Surgical Arts program, with two operating rooms here in Oklahoma City and the option to have surgery in OKC or Tulsa — your choice of city. Consultations are available virtual or in person.

Patients come from across the metro, including communities like Edmond, about seven miles from the practice. The consultation is the starting point. There is no cart, no pressure. You sit with a surgeon, review your anatomy, handle implant samples, and talk through what is realistic for your body.

Recovery, honestly

The first few days bring chest tightness and soreness — patients describe it like a hard workout. You walk the same day and sleep on your back. By one week, most people with desk jobs return to work. No lifting beyond the limit your surgeon sets during that stretch.

By two weeks, soreness fades and light lower-body exercise is usually fine. At six weeks, full exercise resumes, including chest workouts. Implants soften and settle over months. The final shape is not what you see at one week — patience matters here.

A responsible adult drives you home after surgery and stays with you for the first twenty-four hours. After anesthesia, you may not drive yourself, take a rideshare alone, or leave unaccompanied. The practice provides written discharge instructions to both you and your driver.

The risks — read them before your consult

Every surgery has risks. A firm scar shell can form around the implant, called capsular contracture. It can change the shape and can hurt. An implant can leak or break over time. Nipple sensation can change — it may increase, decrease, or go away. Breastfeeding may be affected for some women. Bleeding, infection, uneven results, and the need for revision surgery are all possible.

A very rare cancer of the scar tissue around certain implants has been reported. Some patients report body-wide symptoms they link to implants. Removing implants is always an option. Your surgeon reviews every risk with you in person before you decide anything.

In any emergency — chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, sudden confusion, one leg swelling more than the other, or bleeding that does not slow with gentle pressure — call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department immediately. Do not wait. For non-emergency concerns after surgery, call 405-751-0042 day or night.

How to take the next step

The consultation is where every good decision starts. You meet your surgeon, review your anatomy, discuss implant options, and ask every question you have. Nothing is decided in a single visit unless you are ready. Consultations are available in person at 12400 Saint Andrew's Dr, Oklahoma City, or virtually.
