Breast Augmentation in Oklahoma City, Answered by the Surgeon

Breast augmentation is this practice's flagship procedure. Here is what the surgery actually involves, how recovery unfolds, and what you should know before your consultation in Oklahoma City.

By the surgical team of Oklahoma Surgical Arts ·

What breast augmentation is — and what it is not

Breast augmentation adds size and shape to the breasts with implants. An implant is a soft shell filled with salt water or silicone gel. The implant sits behind the breast tissue or behind the chest muscle. You and your surgeon choose the size and placement together at your visit.

This is not a one-time, permanent procedure. Implants do not last a lifetime. Plan on more surgery someday — whether for replacement, adjustment, or removal. That honesty matters more than any before-and-after photograph.

The surgery is performed by the surgeons of the Tulsa Surgical Arts program, with two operating rooms here in Oklahoma City. You choose your city — OKC or Tulsa. Consultations are virtual or in person.

What happens in the operating room

You receive anesthesia — medicine that makes you sleep. The surgeon makes a short incision, most often in the fold under the breast. A pocket is created behind the breast tissue or behind the muscle. The implant is placed into that pocket and checked for position. The incision is closed in layers with dissolving stitches.

Surgery takes about an hour. You go home the same day. A responsible adult drives you home and stays with you for the first twenty-four hours — that is a firm rule after anesthesia, not a suggestion. Our facility at 12400 Saint Andrew's Drive in Oklahoma City has free on-site parking and a direct entrance for surgery-day drop-off.

Recovery, honestly

The first few days bring chest tightness and soreness — patients describe it like a hard workout. Walk the same day. Sleep on your back. By one week, most people with desk jobs return to work. No lifting beyond the limit your surgeon sets during that stretch.

By two weeks, soreness fades. Light lower-body exercise is usually fine. At six weeks, full exercise resumes, including chest workouts. Implants soften and settle over months. The final shape is not the shape you see the first week.

Patients coming from nearby communities — Edmond is about seven miles from the practice — find the short drive manageable even in those early recovery days. Your surgical team's specific instructions always take priority over any general timeline.

The risks you should read before your consultation

Every surgery has risks. A firm scar shell can form around the implant — called capsular contracture — changing the shape and sometimes causing pain. An implant can leak or break over time; broken implants are replaced or removed. Nipple sensation can change. Breastfeeding may be affected for some women. Bleeding, infection, uneven results, and the need for revision surgery are all real possibilities.

A very rare cancer of the scar tissue around some implants has been reported. Some patients report body-wide symptoms they link to implants. Removing implants is always an option. We go over every risk with you in person. In any emergency — chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden confusion, or a leg that swells — call 911 first.

Otherwise, call 405-751-0042 day or night with concerns after surgery. That line is always staffed.

Sized to your frame, decided with you

Implant selection is not a catalog decision. It is a conversation about your frame, your tissue, your goals, and the trade-offs of each option. That conversation happens at your consultation — not in a shopping cart, not on a screen alone.

Our patient gallery shows real breast augmentation results from the program's surgeons. We encourage you to look, then come in and ask questions. A consultation can be scheduled by calling 405-751-0042 or by filling out the online consult form. Virtual visits are available if that is easier for your schedule. Consult a qualified surgeon before making any surgical decision.

Questions

Asked in real consults.

How long does breast augmentation surgery take?
Surgery takes about an hour. You go home the same day. A responsible adult must drive you home and stay with you for the first twenty-four hours after anesthesia. Most desk-job patients return to work within a week.
Do breast implants last forever?
No. Implants do not last a lifetime. Plan on more surgery someday — whether for replacement, removal, or adjustment. Your surgeon will discuss the expected lifespan and monitoring plan at your consultation.
Where is the incision placed?
Most often in the fold under the breast. The incision is closed in layers with dissolving stitches. Every incision leaves a scar; most fade over a year, though some stay raised or wide. Your surgeon reviews placement options with you.
Can I have breast augmentation surgery in Oklahoma City?
Yes. Oklahoma Surgical Arts has two operating rooms in Oklahoma City at 12400 Saint Andrew's Drive. You may also choose surgery in Tulsa. Consultations are available virtual or in person in either city.
