Breast Implants in OKC: What the Surgeon Wants You to Know
Breast augmentation is our flagship procedure. Here is what we actually talk about in the consultation room — implant choices, placement, recovery and the risks we want every patient to understand before surgery.

What a breast implant actually is
A breast implant is a soft shell filled with either salt water (saline) or silicone gel. It sits behind the breast tissue or behind the chest muscle. The goal is to add size and shape to the breasts — sized to your frame, decided with you at your visit. There is no one-size answer. Your anatomy, your goals and your daily life all factor into the recommendation.
Implants do not last a lifetime. Plan on more surgery someday. That is not a failure of the implant or the surgery — it is the nature of a medical device living inside a body that changes over years. We discuss the long view at every consultation so there are no surprises down the road.
Breast augmentation is performed by the surgeons of the Tulsa Surgical Arts program, with two operating rooms here in Oklahoma City and surgery available in OKC or Tulsa — your choice of city.
How the surgery works
You receive anesthesia — medicine that makes you sleep. The surgeon makes a short incision, most often in the fold under the breast. A pocket is created behind the breast tissue or behind the muscle. The implant is placed into that pocket and checked for position. The incision is closed in layers with dissolving stitches.
Surgery takes about an hour. You go home the same day. A responsible adult drives you home and stays with you for the first twenty-four hours — that is a firm rule after anesthesia, not a suggestion. Our Oklahoma City facility at 12400 Saint Andrew's Drive has free on-site parking and a direct entrance for surgery-day drop-off.
Recovery, honestly
The first few days bring chest tightness and soreness — patients compare it to a hard workout. You walk the same day and sleep on your back. By one week, most people with desk jobs return to work. No lifting over ten pounds during that stretch.
By two weeks the soreness fades and light lower-body exercise is usually fine. At six weeks, full exercise resumes, including chest workouts. Implants soften and settle over months. The final shape is not the shape you see on day one — patience matters here.
Patients coming from communities nearby — Edmond is about seven miles from the practice — find the short drive makes follow-up visits straightforward. We see you in person after surgery, and the team is reachable by phone day or night at 405-751-0042.
The risks we review before your consult
Every surgery has risks. A firm scar shell can form around the implant — called capsular contracture — which can change the shape and cause discomfort. An implant can leak or break over time; broken implants are replaced or removed. Nipple sensation can change. Breastfeeding may be affected for some women. A very rare cancer of the scar tissue around certain implants has been reported. Some patients report body-wide symptoms they link to implants. Removing implants is always an option.
Bleeding, infection, scarring, numbness near the incision, blood clots, anesthesia complications and uneven results are all possible. The two sides of the body are never a perfect match. Some patients need another surgery to fix a problem or improve the result. We go over every one of these risks with you in person — no detail skipped.
In any emergency — chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, sudden leg swelling, or bleeding that does not slow with gentle pressure — call 911 first. For non-emergency concerns after surgery, call 405-751-0042 day or night.
