Breast Augmentation for Edmond Patients: Drive, Consult, Aftercare

Edmond is about seven miles from our Oklahoma City practice. That short drive puts you in front of the same fellowship-trained surgeons and AAAHC-accredited operating rooms we use for every breast augmentation we perform.

A short drive from Edmond to your consult

Our Oklahoma City practice sits about seven miles from Edmond in a straight line. The consultation is the first real step. You meet your surgeon, discuss your goals, and examine implant options together. Consults are available in person at our Oklahoma City location or virtually — whichever suits your schedule.

Breast augmentation is this practice's flagship procedure. It is performed by the surgeons of the Tulsa Surgical Arts program, with two operating rooms here in Oklahoma City. You may also choose to have surgery in Tulsa. The point is flexibility: same standards, same surgeons, your choice of city.

What happens in the operating room

An implant is a soft shell filled with salt water or silicone gel. It sits behind the breast tissue or behind the chest muscle. You and your surgeon choose the size and placement together at your visit — sized to your frame, decided with you. There is no default answer. Every recommendation starts with your anatomy.

Surgery takes about an hour. You receive anesthesia, and the surgeon makes a short incision, most often in the fold under the breast. A pocket is created, the implant is placed and checked for position, and the incision is closed in layers with dissolving stitches. You go home the same day.

Our surgery center is AAAHC-accredited and includes a private overnight guest suite. That accreditation means the facility meets national standards for safety, staffing and equipment — the same standards a hospital ambulatory center would meet.

Recovery: what the weeks actually look like

The first few days bring chest tightness and soreness, similar to a hard workout. Walk the same day. Sleep on your back. By one week, most people with desk jobs return to work. No lifting over a limit your surgeon sets during that stretch. By two weeks, soreness fades and light lower-body exercise is usually fine.

At six weeks, full exercise resumes, including chest workouts. Implants soften and settle over months. Being close in Edmond means follow-up visits are a short trip. We see you in person after surgery to check healing, answer questions and confirm you are progressing on schedule.

Implants do not last a lifetime. Plan on additional surgery someday. That is not a complication — it is the nature of the device. We discuss the long view at your consultation so there are no surprises years from now.

Risks you should read before your consult

Every surgery has risks. A firm scar shell can form around the implant, called capsular contracture, which can change shape and cause discomfort. An implant can leak or break over time. Nipple sensation can change. Breastfeeding may be affected for some women. Bleeding, infection, uneven results and the possible need for revision surgery are all on the list.

A very rare cancer of the scar tissue around some implants has been reported. Some patients report body-wide symptoms they link to implants. Removing implants is always an option. We go over every risk with you in person — no detail skipped, no question too small. In any emergency, call 911 first.
