Breast Augmentation in Oklahoma: Your Questions, Answered

Breast augmentation is our flagship procedure. Here is what the surgery actually involves, how recovery unfolds, and what you should know before your consultation.

By the surgical team of Oklahoma Surgical Arts ·

What breast augmentation is — and what it is not

Breast augmentation adds size and shape to the breasts with implants. An implant is a soft shell filled with salt water or silicone gel. It sits behind the breast tissue or behind the chest muscle. You and your surgeon choose the size and placement together at your visit — sized to your frame, decided with you.

Implants do not last a lifetime. Plan on more surgery someday. That is not a failure of the procedure. It is the nature of the device. A straightforward conversation about longevity belongs in every consultation, and we have it early.

This practice performs breast augmentation through the Tulsa Surgical Arts program, with two operating rooms in Oklahoma City and the option to have surgery in OKC or Tulsa. Patients from communities nearby — Edmond is about seven miles from the practice — and across the state consult virtually or in person.

What happens in the operating room

You receive anesthesia — medicine that makes you sleep. The surgeon makes a short incision, most often in the fold under the breast. A pocket is created behind the breast tissue or behind the muscle. The implant is placed into that pocket and checked for position. The incision is closed in layers with dissolving stitches.

Surgery takes about an hour. You go home the same day. A responsible adult drives you home and stays with you for the first twenty-four hours — that is a firm rule after anesthesia, not a suggestion. Our facility is AAAHC-accredited, with two operating rooms on site at 12400 Saint Andrew's Drive in Oklahoma City.

Recovery, honestly

The first few days bring chest tightness and soreness — patients describe it like a hard workout. Walk the same day. Sleep on your back. By one week, most people with desk jobs return to work. No lifting beyond the limit your surgeon sets during that stretch.

By two weeks, soreness fades and light lower-body exercise is usually fine. At six weeks, full exercise resumes, including chest workouts. Implants soften and settle over months. The final shape is not the shape you see on day one.

In any emergency — chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, sudden confusion, or a leg that swells or hurts more than the other — call 911 first. For concerns that are not emergencies, call us at 405-751-0042, day or night.

The risks you should read before your consultation

Every surgery has risks. A firm scar shell can form around the implant — called capsular contracture — changing the shape and sometimes causing pain. An implant can leak or break over time; broken implants are replaced or removed. Nipple sensation can change. Breastfeeding may be affected for some women.

A very rare cancer of the scar tissue around certain implants has been reported. Some patients report body-wide symptoms they link to implants. Removing implants is always an option. Bleeding, infection, visible scars, numb skin near the incisions, blood clots, anesthesia complications, uneven results, and the possible need for revision surgery all belong on the list. We review every one of these with you in person.

No article replaces that conversation. Consult a qualified surgeon who will walk through each risk as it applies to your anatomy and health history.

Why the consultation matters more than the article

Implant size is not a catalog decision. It is a clinical one — based on your chest width, tissue thickness, and goals. The consultation is where measurements happen, where you handle sample implants, and where your surgeon explains which placement makes sense for your body.

At Oklahoma Surgical Arts, consultations are available virtual or in person. You can see real breast augmentation results in our patient gallery. When you are ready, book a consultation or call 405-751-0042. We will answer every question you bring.

Individual results vary. This article is general education, not medical advice.

Questions

Asked in real consults.

How long does breast augmentation surgery take?
Surgery takes about an hour. You go home the same day with a responsible adult who drives you and stays with you for the first twenty-four hours. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia in our AAAHC-accredited facility in Oklahoma City.
Do breast implants last forever?
No. Implants do not last a lifetime. Plan on more surgery someday — whether for a leak, a change in preference, or capsular contracture. Your surgeon will discuss implant longevity during your consultation so you can plan ahead.
When can I exercise after breast augmentation?
Walk the same day. Most desk workers return to work at one week. Light lower-body exercise is usually fine at two weeks. Full exercise, including chest workouts, resumes around six weeks. Your surgical team gives you the final timeline.
Can I have breast augmentation surgery in Oklahoma City?
Yes. Oklahoma Surgical Arts has two operating rooms in Oklahoma City at 12400 Saint Andrew's Drive. You also have the option of surgery in Tulsa. Consultations are available virtual or in person. Call 405-751-0042 to schedule.
