Mommy Makeover: Your Questions, Answered by the Surgeon

A mommy makeover is not a package off a shelf. It is a single operation built around your body and your goals — breast work and belly work combined under one anesthesia, with one recovery.

What a mommy makeover actually is

A mommy makeover combines breast and belly surgery in one operation. Most often that means a tummy tuck with a breast lift, augmentation, or reduction — and liposuction where it helps. One anesthesia. One recovery. The combination is different for every patient.

Your surgeon examines you, listens to what bothers you, and builds one plan. Combining procedures shares anesthesia and facility time, which is why a mommy makeover is planned — and priced — as one operation with one written number. There is no standard menu. The plan is yours.

At Oklahoma Surgical Arts in Oklahoma City, consultations are available virtual or in person. Patients from nearby communities — Edmond is about seven miles away — and across the state see the same surgeons who operate at the Tulsa flagship.

What happens in the operating room

You receive general anesthesia — medicine that makes you sleep — once, for the entire combined plan. Breast work comes first in most plans: lift, implants, or reduction, as decided with you during your consultation. The sequence is deliberate and rehearsed.

The tummy tuck follows. Separated abdominal muscles are repaired, extra skin is removed, and the belly button is re-set in its natural position. Liposuction sculpts the waist or flanks where the plan calls for it. Everything is closed in layers. Garments and dressings go on before you wake.

Combined surgery takes several hours. Some patients stay one night. The surgery is performed in an AAAHC-accredited surgery center with two operating rooms here in Oklahoma City.

Recovery, honestly

The first few days are the hardest. You walk bent, rest propped up, and let your helper help. Walking a little every few hours matters — it lowers the risk of blood clots. By one week, most patients are turning a corner. Drains, if used, usually come out. Standing straightens day by day.

Many desk workers return around two weeks. No lifting over ten pounds during that stretch — and that includes toddlers. Full exercise, including core and chest work, restarts around six weeks. Swelling clears in stages over months. Breasts settle and scars begin to fade on their own timeline.

A responsible adult must drive you home after anesthesia and stay with you for the first twenty-four hours. Your surgical team gives you written instructions and remains reachable by phone day or night at 405-751-0042.

The honest risk list

Every surgery has risks. A mommy makeover carries the risks of each individual procedure plus the reality of longer anesthesia time. Plans are limited to what is safe in one day. Blood clots are a specific concern with combined body surgery. Early walking lowers that risk. Fluid buildup under the skin — called seroma — may need office drainage.

Slow wound healing is more likely in smokers. Combined plans demand a full nicotine stop. Changes in nipple or belly-skin sensation can take months to recover. Bleeding, infection, uneven results, and the possible need for another surgery to fix a problem or improve a result are all on the list. We review the full risk profile for your exact plan in person.

In any emergency — chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, sudden confusion, one leg swelling more than the other, or bleeding that does not slow with gentle pressure — call 911 first. For concerns like asymmetric swelling, fever of 101.5 °F or higher, spreading redness, or pus at an incision, call 405-751-0042 day or night.

How to take the next step

A mommy makeover begins with a consultation. Your surgeon examines you, listens, and explains what each component would do for your body specifically. No procedure is decided in a single conversation — the plan is built with you, not handed to you.
