Mommy Makeover in Oklahoma City: What the Surgery Actually Involves

A mommy makeover combines breast and belly surgery in one anesthesia. Here is what that means in practice — the planning, the operating room, and the weeks that follow.

What a mommy makeover actually is

A mommy makeover is not a single procedure. It is a combination — most often a tummy tuck with a breast lift, augmentation, or reduction, with liposuction where it helps. One anesthesia. One recovery. The combination is different for every body.

Your surgeon examines you, listens to what bothers you, and builds one plan. Never a package off a shelf. Combining procedures shares anesthesia and facility time, which is why a mommy makeover is planned — and priced — as one operation with one written number.

At Oklahoma Surgical Arts in Oklahoma City, consultations happen virtual or in person. The practice sits at 12400 Saint Andrew's Dr, Oklahoma City, OK 73120 — about seven miles from Edmond — with two operating rooms and an AAAHC-accredited surgery center.

What happens in the operating room

You receive general anesthesia once, for the combined plan. Breast work comes first in most plans — lift, implants, or reduction as decided with you. The tummy tuck follows: muscles are repaired, extra skin is removed, and the belly button is re-set in its natural position.

Liposuction sculpts the waist or flanks where the plan calls for it. Everything is closed in layers. Garments and dressings go on before you wake. Combined surgery takes several hours. Some patients stay one night.

Recovery, honestly

The first few days are the hardest. You walk bent, rest propped up, and let your helper help. Walk a little every few hours — early walking lowers the risk of blood clots. Drains, if used, usually come out around one week. Standing straightens day by day.

Many desk workers return around two weeks. No lifting over ten pounds — that includes toddlers. Full exercise restarts at about six weeks, including core and chest work. Swelling clears in stages over months. Breasts settle and scars begin to fade.

A responsible adult must drive you home and stay with you for the first twenty-four hours. You may not drive yourself, take a rideshare alone, or leave unaccompanied after anesthesia. The surgical team gives you written instructions and is reachable at 405-751-0042, day or night.

Risks you should know before your consult

Every surgery has risks. Combined surgery means longer anesthesia time than a single procedure, so plans are limited to what is safe in one day. Blood clots are a real concern — combined body surgery raises the risk. Fluid buildup under the skin (seroma) may need office drainage. Slow wound healing is more likely in smokers; combined plans demand a full nicotine stop.

Changes in nipple or belly-skin feeling can take months to recover. Bleeding can occasionally require another trip to the operating room. Infection signs include spreading redness, warmth, pus, or fever. The two sides of the body are never a perfect match, and some patients need another surgery to fix a problem or improve a result. We review the full risk list for your exact plan in person.

When to call — and when to call 911

In any emergency, call 911 first. Go to the nearest emergency department — do not drive yourself and do not wait — for chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, fainting, sudden confusion, weakness on one side of the body, one leg swelling or one calf hurting more than the other, or bleeding that soaks a bandage and does not slow with gentle pressure.

Otherwise call 405-751-0042, day or night, if one breast or one side of your belly becomes much more swollen, tight, or painful than the other; if you have a fever of 101.5°F or higher; or if redness spreads from any incision or you see pus.
